Creating end-to-end tests with Selenium and Cucumber

Are you struggling with writing good Java-based Selenium WebDriver tests? Are you wasting a lot of time and effort getting them to run, and then some more maintaining them? No surprise there, writing great Selenium tests is hard!

Simply having knowledge of the WebDriver API is not enough to be able to create future-proof end-to-end tests with Selenium. You’ll also need to be able to identify which tests are suited for WebDriver and which are better left to other types of automation, or to no automation at all. Then, you’ll need to be able to apply the right patterns and practices to make your code well-structured, readable and maintainable.

And that’s exactly what this course will teach you!

Course contents
This course covers, among other things:

  • Why it’s so easy to overdo it with Selenium-based tests
  • How to identify when using Selenium is (not) a good idea
  • Setting up Selenium as part of your Java-based automation suite
  • Using Cucumber to document the intent of your Selenium tests
  • Using ExtentReports to create beautiful, human-readable HTML reports
  • Defining abstraction levels in your Selenium code
  • Using the Page Object pattern for better maintainability
  • Using wrappers around the Selenium API for improved stability, exception handling and reporting
  • Using test data objects for easy test data management

There’s no better way to learn than by doing, so you’ll be presented with a variety of hands-on (programming) exercises throughout this course.

Intended audience and prerequisite knowledge
This course is aimed at testing practitioners that want to learn more about how to create a well-structured Java-based automation suite with Selenium WebDriver and Cucumber.

Previous exposure to Selenium, Cucumber and test automation in general will make it easier for you to follow along, as we will not cover all the nuts and bolts of these tools in detail.

Delivery and group size
I currently offer this course in person, on site only. The maximum group size is 12.

Duration
