Consulting
“Our tests are slowing us down, instead of providing us with valuable feedback, fast.”
“We want to improve our test automation approach, but we’re not sure which changes will make the biggest difference.”
“Our test code is difficult to maintain, our tests are unreliable, and we don’t know where to start improving it.”
Does any of that sound familiar? If so, I can help you tackle these challenges and turn them into practical improvements.
How I can help you
I work directly with your engineers to investigate problems, explore solutions and implement improvements in your test automation.
Depending on the challenge, this might involve pair programming or ensemble programming, reviewing your existing approach, or working together on a specific technical problem. We agree on the desired outcomes beforehand and focus on changes that help your team get more valuable feedback, faster.
Apart from hands-on technical work, there are a few other things I can do for you, too:
- Run a workshop to help your team better understand a technique before implementing it in your own context
- Review your current test automation approach, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend concrete next steps
- Figure out with you where and how to use AI in your test automation in a responsible way
- Do a talk for your team or your company on a topic related to test automation (I particularly enjoy doing talks with live demos)
The goal is not just to solve an immediate problem, but to help your team understand the changes and continue improving after our engagement ends.
What does working with me look like?
The process is fairly simple:
- You contact me using this form (please choose ‘you consulting with us’)
- We schedule a 30-minute chat to discuss the logistics and desired outcomes
- I send you a proposal with the approach, deliverables and a fixed price
- We work together as agreed, working towards the outcomes we’ve defined
After the engagement, I send you an overview of what we did, what we achieved, the blockers we ran into (if any), as well as my recommendations for you going forward.
That’s it. No lengthy onboarding or complicated contracts. I am happy to sign an NDA should your legal department require it.
So, what does it cost to work with you?
The value of an engagement comes from solving the right problem, not from counting the number of sessions. We’ll agree on the scope, expected outcomes and fixed price before we start, so you’ll know exactly what the investment will be.
The price depends on the challenge and the work involved. Smaller, focused engagements are possible, while larger challenges may require a more substantial investment. Either way, the aim is to make a meaningful improvement to your test automation, not simply to fill a few hours in your calendar.
Anything else I should know?
I live in the CE(S)T time zone, in the Netherlands to be precise. I have some flexibility in my schedule to accommodate time zone differences, and I have successfully worked with companies both in North America and in Asia in the past.
As working together is often more efficient (and more fun) when we’re in the same room, I am happy to come into your office. Additional costs apply for engagements outside the Netherlands. Remote collaboration is possible, too.
For remote pair or ensemble programming, sessions start at 2 hours to allow enough time to get into the problem and make meaningful progress. We’ll take a short break (5-10 minutes) every hour to prevent your brains from running out of steam early.
Please note that I am unavailable for long term, full time engagements.
